In this work, the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) technique is utilized to analyze the surface chemical composition of particulate matter (PM) which was collected from various locations at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The main elements found on the surface of PM are carbon (C), oxygen (O) and silicon (Si) with combined percentage of 89.4–94.9 while traces of nitrogen (N), calcium (Ca), aluminum (Al), sodium (Na), chlorine (Cl), manganese (Mg), and sulfur (S) were also present. The analyzed XPS chemical state of C, O and Si was further used to determine their bonding with other elements occurring over the surface of PM. Carbon was found in the form of carbides (18.86%), fluorides (2.39%) and carbonates (78.75%); oxygen was observed as oxides (21.05%) and hydroxides (73.42%) of other metals; and silicon was detected as silicones (12.16%), nitrides (82.53%) and silicates (5.25%). The particle size of a PM is also of great concern for health issues, and thus has been investigated by the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). The Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) was employed for cross verification of detected elements by XPS. 相似文献

Ultrabasic xenoliths (pyroxenites, lherzolites, harzburgites) in recent (Neogene–Quaternary) volcanoes have been studied in three localities within Syria: Jubates (North), Mhailbeh (Center), Tel Thannoun (South). P–T conditions of mineral equilibration have been estimated by pyroxene thermometry (temperature) and maximum CO2 density in primary inclusions (minimum pressure). Pyroxenites equilibrate at significantly higher conditions (T about 1200 °C, P>15 kbar) than lherzolites and harzburgites (900<T<1100 °C, P between 10 and 15 kbar). All are within the spinel lherzolite field, whereas Cretaceous xenoliths originate within the garnet lherzolite field. To cite this article: A. Bilal, F. Sheleh, C. R. Geoscience 336 (2004). 相似文献

Temporal and spatial variation in soft‐bottom benthic communities following recovery from a pollution episode were studied between January and September 2004 in and around Alsancak Harbor, located in the polluted part of Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea, eastern Mediterranean). Samples were collected at seven stations by van Veen grab. Three additional stations were sampled by means of a beam trawl to take into account large mobile animals and for a better estimate of the local biodiversity. A total of 231 species belonging to 10 zoobenthic groups were found. Polychaetes contributed 90% of the total faunal populations and mollusks 87% of the total biomass in the area. Community parameters varied significantly among stations and sampling periods; number of species ranged from 2 to 79 per 0.1 m2 grab sample; density from 20 to 81,720 ind·m?2; biomass from 0.1 to 4190 g·m?2; Shannon–Wiener diversity index (log2 base) from 0.4 to 4.4; and Pielou's evenness index from 0.11 to 1.0. Collections indicate that a number of species, including those sensitive to pollution, have colonized the area where azoic conditions had been previously reported. A total of six exotic species, Streblospio gynobranchiata, Polydora cornuta, Hydroides dianthus, Hydroides elegans, Anadara demiri and Fulvia fragilis, probably transferred to the area via ballast water or hull fouling, dominated soft or hard substrata in and near Alsancak Harbor. The first two species accounted for more than 70% of the total population in the area, while A. demiri contributed the most to the biomass (93%, at station 7). 相似文献

The vorticity of the displacement velocity is used to derive dimensionless numbers that can be used to quantify the relative
importance of viscosity ratio, gravity, diffusion/dispersion and permeability heterogeneity on secondary hydrocarbon recovery.
Using this approach, a new objective measure of the impact of permeability and porosity heterogeneity on reservoir performance
is obtained. This is used, in conjunction with other dimensionless numbers, to analyse the relative impact of heterogeneity,
buoyancy effects, mobility ratio and dispersion on breakthrough time and recovery at 1 pore volume injected during first contact
miscible gas injection. This is achieved using results obtained from detailed simulation of miscible displacements through
a range of geologically realistic reservoir models. This study goes some way towards developing a unified mathematical framework
to determine under which flow conditions reservoir heterogeneity becomes more important than other physical processes. We
propose that comparison of these dimensionless numbers can be used to identify the key factors controlling recovery and thus
assist the engineer in determining appropriate enhanced oil recovery techniques to improve recovery. 相似文献

This study concerns Tarbela dam reservoir which is a major resource of Pakistan in terms of electricity generation and irrigation
supplies. Rapid filling of reservoir due to sediment transported and deposited by Indus River is described and analysed in
this article. Causes of sediment deposition and their impact on dam’s function and life are studied. The main characteristic
parameters of the site are presented. The morphological evolution of the reservoir bed induced by dam construction, between
the year 1974 when the River bed was in its original state before dam construction, and the situation of the river bed after
the deposition of the sediment in the year 2006, is examined. A numerical model developed in this study (Khawaja and Sanchez
in Tarbela dam: a numerical model for sediment management in the reservoir; coastal and maritime mediterranean conference,
1st edn, Hammamet, pp 111–114, 2009) allows obtaining the above-stated provisional evolution of the reservoir over the coming years. Finally, five potential
remedial solutions are thoroughly discussed. 相似文献

Barremian-Lower Aptian platform carbonates (“Urgonian limestones”) of the northern margin of the Istanbul zone extend from Zonguldak to the Kurucasile area along the Black Sea coast. New stratigraphic data on the “Inpiri” Formation of the Inpiri-Kurucasile area are based on the identification of calcareous algae, foraminifera, and rudists. They show that this lithostratigraphic unit is stratigraphically and lithologically equivalent to the Ökü?medere Formation from Zonguldak. Some of the biostratigraphic markers are reported for the first time in Anatolia. Foraminifera are represented by several forms with a significant biostratigraphic potential used to distinguish the Barremian from the lower Aptian. Lower Aptian beds also yield relatively advanced caprinid rudists. The Ökü?medere Formation is relatively thin, terrigeneous-rich, and rudist-free or rudist-poor in the Kurucasile sector, and thick, terrigeneous-poor, and rudist-rich from Amasra to Zonguldak, with a set of marker beds including either charophytes or Palorbitolina and capped by a coral unit underlying ammonite bearing marls. Terrigeneous-rich carbonates from the eastern sector are interpreted as marginal marine coastal, infralittoral environments and grade distally, northward, to marly basinal sediments. By contrast “Urgonian type” limestones from the Zonguldak-Amasra region possess a wide extent and no transition to coastal or basinal sediments has been observed. A transition from a typical platform westward to a mixed siliciclastic-carbonate ramp eastward was controlled by both the nature of the adjacent exposed area and tectonic factors affecting the overall continental margin that is a northward downwarping. The exposed area was flanked southward by a belt of coastal siliciclastics grading southward and eastward to deep water sediments of the Ulus basin. In mid-Bedoulian time, carbonate platform demise from the western region was drowned below deeper marly sediments whereas the eastern siliscilastic-carbonate ramp was buried below coastal clastics. 相似文献

A fossil-bearing locality near Padhri village, Dhok Pathan, 55 km away from the tehsil Dina, Jhelum District, in the Potwar Plateau, Middle Siwaliks, Punjab, northern Pakistan, is significantly rich in mammalian fossils. This site has provided an abundant mammalian fossil fauna of Late Miocene age from the Dhok Pathan Formation (Fm.). The recovered material belongs to four families: Equidae (horses), Rhinocerotidae (rhinos), Bovidae (cows), and Suidae (pigs). We discovered a new skull of hipparionine Hipparion theobaldi from this locality along with 22 specimens from the associated assemblage of fossil mammals. The recovered material includes seven other species: the aceratheriine Chilotherium intermedium, boselaphines Tragoportax punjabicus, Selenoportax vexillarius, Pachyportax latidens, the antelope Gazella lydekkeri and suinine Propotamochoerus hysudricus. The specimens are isolated teeth, fragments of maxilla, mandibles and horn cores. The Dhok Pathan Fm. is generally composed of claystone, siltstone and sandstone beds and, based on the mammalian fauna, the Padhri fossil locality is dated as Late Miocene. Thi99s formation was deposited in a subtropical paleoenvironment and the predominance of fossil bovids indicates extremely moist conditions with small but frequent standing water bodies. 相似文献
